The Anchorage Public Library Ready to Read Resource Center, located at Z.J. Loussac Public Library, is a statewide resource for anyone who works with infants and toddlers anywhere in Alaska.

Mission: promote early literacy development throughout Alaska by providing books and other resources to children birth to age three and their caregivers.

Method: loan reading kits, free of charge, to early care and education professionals, agencies who serve young children and their families, as well as libraries. A few examples are:

  • Child development centers
  • Licensed family child care providers
  • Head Start programs
  • Rural libraries
  • Health clinics
  • Faith-based early childhood centers

With over 200 reading kits containing nearly 6,000 items, the Ready to Read Resource Center hopes to engage all of Alaska's youngest children with high quality, age-appropriate books.
