Genealogy

Most of the library's genealogy material is at the Loussac Library in the Genealogy Collection on level 3, identified below as GEN-R. Some duplicate copies are in the circulating non-fiction area and at the branches. Alaska-specific material is housed in the Alaska Collection.

Click on the title to check the catalog for location and availability. You may place a request on any circulating copy to be held for you at the library of your choice.

Volunteers from the Anchorage Genealogical Society are available for questions at the Loussac Library every Wednesday from 11 am-2 pm, and on second and fourth Wednesdays from 7-9 pm.

Polar Pac
Useful for searching Alaska information, this database indexes over 85,000 bibliographic records from libraries with significant arctic and polar region collections. Housed in the Alaska Collection, 2nd floor, Loussac Library.

Genealogy & Local History
Loussac Library is the only location in Alaska that has owns this collection. It includes four types of records: family genealogies, local histories, primary sources, and genealogical serials. Currently it is available in two formats: in microfiche, located on the 3rd floor of Loussac Library, and online in the library from Online Databases. The microfiche has paper indexes located with the fiche, or you may use the online version as an index. The online version is full text, and is available from home with a library card as well as in the library.

Ancestry.com
Over 1,000 online databases for genealogy, including access to their subscription databases, such as census records, birth, and death records, immigration and naturalization records, and the Social Security death index. Available in the library from Online Databases off of the library's home page.
