Volunteer at the Library

Gift Shop Attendant

  • Duties: Staff the Friends of the Library Gift Shop counter.
  • Qualifications: Must enjoy working with people. Basic store clerk skills in running a cash register, making change, etc.
  • Time Requirement: Varies. Job is usually staffed in three hour segments.
  • Training Requirement: On the job instruction with Gift Store Manager.
  • Job Value: Gift Shop net profits help fund library programs and projects.

Book Sale Volunteers

  • Duties: 1) Assist in moving books and setting up for library book sale. About 4-hour shifts between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the Friday before the sale. Book sales are the first weekend in May and the first weekend in November. Free lunch provided! 2) Work during the book sale open hours directing customers, totaling sales, helping deliver books to vehicles, and replenishing shelves. 3-hour shift minimum on Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday between noon and 4 p.m. 3) Assist in clean-up and and moving books back to basement after 4 p.m.
  • Training Requirement: On the job instruction by book sale coordinator.
  • Job Value: Book sale proceeds help fund library programs, supplying community members with lots of wonderful books at very low prices!

Volunteens

  • Duties: Job open to young people age 13 and up to assist with the Summer Reading Program.
  • Time Requirement: Open from June through August. Call for scheduling needs.
  • Training Requirement: On the job instruction with Youth Services Librarian.
  • Job Value: The summer reading program keeps young people actively reading during school vacation months.
